A TPE audit, or Targeted Probe and Educate audit, is a Medicare program where Medicare Administrative Contractors (MACs) review a provider's claims to identify errors and provide education to reduce future denials. The process involves selecting a sample of claims, reviewing supporting documentation, providing one-on-one education on identified errors, and then allowing the provider 45 days to implement corrective actions. If errors persist, the process can repeat for up to three rounds.
